Although I haven’t been writing much lately, I’ve been expressing myself creatively via other means. To wit, I’m learning Photoshop (well, OK, GIMP 2.8). I’m also a bit of a smartass. Turns out my daughter shares my bizarre sense of humor.
This, of course, should come to the surprise of exactly no one.
Specifically, recently Σ discovered MS Paint and has taken up a hobby she calls “de-heading.” To wit, I provide her with a portrait of some dead Communist figure and she, um, takes liberty with it. This all started a few weekends ago when I was messing with portraits of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il. She wanted in on that action too. Here’s the result:
As a result she’s probably the only third-grader on North Korea’s watch list.

Since we both find this sort of thing funny as hell (although I suspect not entirely for the same reasons), Σ wanted to do more. For her next project a few days later, she selected former Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu.
She wanted to make the self-described “Genius of the Carpathians” look pretty.

It’s not just commies we’re targeting. Next Σ wants to “de-head” Niccolò Machiavelli and … Dr. Weird. I can’t wait to see what she does with that.
